MEMBERSHIP

  • Open to all regardless of religion or gender.
  • Register by filling the registration form and duly signing in it.
  • Includes a President, a Vice President, a Secretary and a Treasurer as office bearers and any gender at the local unit level.

STRUCTURE

I. LOCAL LEVEL: Each local unit has an Animator, four office bearers and other members.

II. REGIONAL LEVEL: A regional leadership working under the Regional Youth Director is formed from the office bearers of the local unit.

  • Focus on education and discovery and development of God given gifts.
  • Relationship and togetherness are prompted.
  • The processes of life giving and life sharing are facilitated and promoted.
  • Different groups like self-development group, God oriented group and groups of other orientations are promoted.
  • Basis on Salesian Youth Spirituality.

DBYM Methodology

DBYM process moves through EXPERIENCE, SHARING, DISCERNMENT and ACTION.

I. EXPERIENCE
Youngsters’ questions, aspirations, expectations, needs etc. formed from school, college, family, parish, playground or work place forms part of their experience.

II. SHARING
These experiences shared among the members through dialogues, meetings etc. and even in prayer foster reflection on interpersonal relationships.

III. DISCERNMENT
This simply means to ‘see, judge and act’. Includes observing the situation objectively without prejudice considering its causes, distortions and the motives; taking responsibility to act on it and not withdraw from it and deciding on a course of action.

IV. ACTION
It simply means the service for remedying dehumanizing situations. It is concrete commitment, responsible intervention and generous participation in life.

Levels of Implementation

Initial Stage:
Emphasis on building up “the self” 
• Focus on boosting a positive self –image, appreciation, affirmation and acceptance • Helps develop strong self-identity.

Second Stage:
Emphasis on inter-personal relationship • The members reach out to others • Builds up creativity, genuine friendships and teamspirit through team work to achieve set goals.

Third Stage:
Emphasis on critical awareness of situations • Learns to respond courageously and prophetically • Become effective agents of social transformation • Believe strongly that another world of love, equality and justice is possible.
