Don Bosco Basketball Tournament Tips Off with a Spectacular Start Irinjalakuda, 08-09-2023 — The All Kerala Don Bosco Basketball Tournament commenced with an electrifying start at the Don Bosco Indoor Stadium in Iringalakuda. The event was inaugurated by the distinguished presence of Irinjalakuda DYSP TK Shaiju, setting the stage for a thrilling competition ahead. School Manager Fr. Emmanuel Vattakunnel presided over the opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and unity.
Welcoming the gathering, School Principal Fr. Santhosh Mathew set the tone for the tournament’s grand beginning. Expressing heartfelt gratitude for the support, LP Section Head Teacher Sr. Omana V.P. conveyed the sentiments of the school community.
Prominent figures in the realm of sports and education, including Thrissur District Basketball Association President Mr. Raju Davis Perappadan, ICSE School Principal Fr. Manu Peedikayil, Administrator Fr. Joyson Mulavarikal, and Spiritual animator of the school Fr. Josin Thazhethettu, graced the occasion with their presence. Additionally, Diamond Jubilee Organizing Secretary Mrs. Laisa Sebastian, Sports Committee Convener Mr. Joseph Chacko, Alumni Association Secretary Mr. Ebin Vellanikaran, Higher Secondary School PTA President Mr. Telson Kotoly, L.P. School PTA President Mr. Seby Maliekal, ICSE School PTA PresidentMr. Sivaprasad Sridharan, and Tournament Convener Mr. Sandesh Hari extended warm greetings, showcasing their support for the tournament.
The tournament, spanning four days, features a total of 12 teams in the boys’ category and 9 teams in the girls’ category. In the opening match, Don Bosco School, Irinjalakuda, displayed remarkable prowess, triumphing over Devmata CMI School, Thrissur, with a commanding score of 49-13.
This year’s special highlight lies in the inclusion of professional teams as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The professional team competition kicks off at 6 pm and is expected to be a major crowd-puller. Eight formidable teams, including KSEB Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Police, Central Tax and GST Kochi, will vie for supremacy in this category.
