Don Bosco Youth Centre, in collaboration with youth centres and Axis Bank, organised a Clean-a-thon under the title “Open to the Earth,” on June 5, 2022, marking World Environment Day. Open to the Earth highlighted the importance of nature and the need to protect the Earth. The cleaning campaigns were organised in Wayanad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Kollam.
Mr. K.N. Unnikrishnan, MLA, Vypin constituency, inaugurated the programme at Centre Square Mall. Fr. Manu Michael SDB, Director, DBYS Kerala, S. Bindish, Circle Head, Axis Bank and others were present for the function.
The awareness campaign in Ernakulam was launched with an energetic flash mob. A 17-feet-high fish art was installed at Puthuvype beach for dumping plastic and other waste. Vypin Panchayat President, and representative of Don Bosco, gave messages about the importance of environmental protection.
All the waste from the shore was collected through a public challenge. Along with the representatives of Axis Bank and Don Bosco, many local people also participated in this challenge. The installation will be fixed permanently on the beach for waste disposal and beach beautification.
